The Oriel
The Oriel™ wooden planter takes its inspiration from the traditional English cask, reinterpreted as a piece of garden architecture with a quieter, more contemporary character. Its generous proportions and curved form give it a distinctive presence, whether standing alone or forming part of a considered arrangement.
We make each Oriel™ individually in our Cotswolds workshop, choosing the timber according to the character and setting of the piece. Oak and iroko will weather naturally, developing a refined silver patina over time, while Accoya® offers a particularly stable surface for a professionally applied finish in your chosen colour.
Made for Considered Landscapes
The Oriel™ offers a distinctive alternative to the traditional terracotta pot, working equally well with specimen planting, flowering displays or sculptural greenery. Its character allows it to make an impression on its own, while its proportions also lend themselves to pairs and larger arrangements.

A Traditional Round Wooden Planter
Where many architectural planters rely on straight lines and square proportions, the Oriel™ offers something distinctly different.
Its round form creates a softer relationship with surrounding planting and makes it particularly effective where a planter is viewed from several directions. Used individually, it creates a natural focal point; used as a pair, the repeated circular form can bring balance and symmetry to an entrance or terrace.
Its character is deliberately understated, allowing the craftsmanship, timber and planting to provide the detail.
Handmade in Oak, Iroko or Accoya™
Each Oriel™ is handmade in our Cotswolds workshop and can be commissioned in Oak, Iroko or Accoya™.
Oak and Iroko provide the natural character of hardwood and can be allowed to weather gracefully outdoors. Accoya™ provides excellent dimensional stability and is particularly appropriate where a high-quality painted finish is required.
Guide dimensions are available, but each planter is made to order and alternative dimensions can be discussed where the planting or setting requires different proportions.
