Garden Obelisks & Trellis Screens

A garden obelisk brings height, structure and architectural presence to the landscape. Its origins lie in the ancient Egyptian obelisk, but the form has long been embraced by English gardens as both a focal point and a framework for climbing plants.

At Oxford Planters, we approach the obelisk as a piece of garden architecture rather than simply a support for planting. This is reflected in the commissions we receive from private gardens, designers and estates across the country, where each piece is considered as part of the wider landscape.

Each obelisk and trellis screen is made to order by our architectural joiners using traditional joinery techniques. We carefully select hardwoods and specialist timbers such as oak, iroko and Accoya® for their character, stability and ability to endure. For painted commissions, Accoya® can be professionally spray coated in a colour chosen specifically for the setting.

Every garden is different, so each commission is considered individually. Dimensions, detailing and finish are adapted to the architecture, planting and character of the landscape.

The finished piece provides more than support for a climbing rose or clematis. It introduces height, rhythm and permanence, allowing the planting and architecture to become part of one composition.
