The Classic Hertford™ wooden planter is one of Oxford Planters’ defining and longest-established designs. With balanced proportions and restrained detailing, it has become a favourite with private clients, professional gardeners and landscape designers, and has also found a place at Hampton Court Palace.

With its clean lines and architectural presence, the Hertford™ has become a distinctive design in its own right. Its apparent simplicity belies the engineering behind it, with each planter constructed to withstand the continual demands of soil, planting, water and outdoor exposure.

Every Hertford™ is made to order in our Cotswolds workshop, where our joiners consider its construction according to scale, planting and setting. Available in oak, iroko or Accoya®, each timber offers a different character. Oak and iroko weather naturally to a refined silver patina, while Accoya® provides a particularly stable surface for a professionally applied finish in your chosen colour.

Designed for the Landscape

The Hertford™ works equally well as a single architectural feature, in symmetrical pairs or as part of a considered sequence along a terrace or garden elevation.

Substantial 70 x 70mm or 90 x 90mm legs, depending on scale, give the planter its distinctive presence. Matching rails maintain its proportions, while a concealed slatted base allows irrigation to be discreetly integrated.

Each Hertford™ is individually made and scaled to its dimensions and setting, retaining the character of the original while becoming entirely its own.
