Barrels, as we know them, are made using hooped oak and have been used as far back as 350BC. The Romans adopted this same method to replace transportation of their wine from ceramic containers, which often failed in transit. Oak barrels offered a much more reliable solution. Right up to the 20th century, barrels were the most convenient vessel for shipping and storage as they were stronger than the alternative crates.
Oxford Planters adopted the look of the barrel and created a modern day take on the traditional barrel for planting fine specimen topiary and trees, instead of a vessel for liquid.
Using traditional joinery techniques Oxford Planters mastered the art of making the barrel structurally sound in much larger sizes. The Oxford Planter luxurious modern Barrel Planter is made to order in any size and is shown here 1150x1050mmH.
