Commissioned for a longstanding private client in Amersham, this bespoke luxury potting bench forms part of an exclusive collection of three handcrafted pieces designed specifically for their garden. The brief called for enduring performance, refined aesthetics, and ergonomic precision tailored exactly to the client’s height, ensuring complete comfort during extended planting sessions.

We began by establishing the ideal working height to create a natural and supportive stance. From there, we designed a substantial, grounded structure that would sit confidently within the garden setting. The result is a potting bench with architectural presence, solid, balanced, and built to last.

Each frame is crafted from A1 grade Accoya, selected for its exceptional dimensional stability and resistance to moisture. Our skilled joiners construct every piece using traditional pegged mortise and tenon joints. This time-honoured method delivers remarkable structural integrity while showcasing true craftsmanship in every detail.

Rather than incorporate drawers, this design features elegantly detailed slatted doors. These doors provide generous concealed storage while allowing subtle airflow within the cabinet space. The vertical slats introduce rhythm and refinement, elevating the bench beyond simple utility furniture. Behind them, ample storage keeps tools, pots, and materials organised and protected.

Above, a solid iroko timber worktop provides a durable and resilient working surface. The rich tone and dense grain of iroko add warmth and texture, while visually linking this piece to the bespoke seating created elsewhere in the garden. The considered pairing of Accoya and iroko ensures both longevity and understated luxury.
