The Dyffryn Bench™ is where heritage meets handcrafted excellence. Specially commissioned by the National Trust, this remarkable wooden garden bench celebrates artistry, tradition, and timeless British design. Inspired by the visionary Edwardian landscape architect Thomas Mawson, the bench takes its cues from his celebrated work at Dyffryn Gardens in the Vale of Glamorgan—one of Britain’s most iconic and historically important landscapes.
Reinterpreting Mawson’s architectural vision, Oxford Planters has brought his early-20th-century design philosophy into the modern age. Drawing directly from his original 1904 catalogue, our craftsmen created the Dyffryn Bench™ to reflect his belief that garden structures should blend seamlessly with nature. The result is a bench that balances architectural strength and organic beauty, uniting form and function in perfect proportion.
Every Dyffryn Bench™ is handcrafted to order in our Oxfordshire workshop. Our artisans shape each element with precision, using traditional joinery techniques and sustainable hardwoods chosen for their durability and character. Oversized arms and legs give the bench its sculptural presence and commanding form, ensuring it stands proudly in any outdoor space. Finished to your specification, each piece embodies the enduring quality of truly-bespoke British craftsmanship.
Far more than just seating, the Dyffryn Bench™ becomes a focal point of elegance and permanence wherever it is situated. Whether placed in a grand estate or a private sanctuary, it elevates every setting with both heritage and artistry. Combining historic inspiration, bespoke design, and contemporary craftsmanship, the Dyffryn Bench™ captures the very essence of heritage reimagined.
